hi all! great to hear what you guys, jeff, lisa, and heidi have been doing recently.

I've been fairly involved with the local Nonviolent Communication (Compassionate Communication) community, have been inspired by the practice.

I co-host a small (7-14 people) evening practice gathering once a month,

something ost-like in a Whole Person Process container.

And since july this year have co-organized two daylong NVC practice gatherings held in ost. the next one is in nov. the intention is to hold them every two months. and in jan. we'll have our first two day practice gathering. these first two have been just beautiful events. 30+ have attended each one...

at the first such gathering we spent a fair amount of time tweaking the language of the opening to get something that sounded in the spirit of nvc. and one of the things we settled on doing- which is not strictly ost but people so liked it that i've decided to keep doing it for now-- is to invite those who wish to to do a three minute guided meditation inspired by zen practice to "arrive." Even leading that stretches me- as i really wish to do something that is pure ost. and based on the feedback i'm receiving, it sounds like people really want the meditation...i have never done this offered a meditation in the past-- i don't think it fits for every group. but for the nvc folks it seems to fit...

thrilled to hear of this osonos in san fran next year!
greetings from down the coast...

Hey Lisa, it's cool to know you're facilitating right now! And thanks for posting the next SF osonos in March.

I recently facilitated an open space at St. Mary's College for their Leadership programs. Love that their adult graduate students come from many walks of life, from insurance salespeople to union organizers to police chiefs. It was a potent and productive gathering.

And Heidi and I co-facilitated a daylong OS gathering for 120 faculty and staff as the kickoff of the new school year at CIIS in San Francisco. People really loved it and we've already been asked to do it again next year.

I'd be glad to read more stories... who else?

What are you Open Space California folks doing in Open Space lately?
As I write this, I am facilitating an OS up in Humboldt County with young people creating their vision of a soon-to-be youth community center (including young people in foster care, in and out of school, with and without homes, and from a rich diversity of cultures and experience.
And you? What OS events have you been doing in California lately?

Thanks to all of the host team, of OSonOS 2010 in San Francisco for creating a wonderful experience of Open Space which I am grateful to have attended.
The Book of Proceedings is also an amazing compilation.
For the sake of accuracy, I need to point out that the Spiral Dialogues session on page 23, which I facilitated, was only attended in its entirety by John and Willow.
In e-mails with Lisa, this notice of correction is how she indicated I could make this correction.

(and now, the full message from the OSonOS 2010 San Francisco Host Team):

Dear colleagues --

This January we hosted an Open Space on Open Space - a several-day conference in and about Open Space Technology. We shared learning, inquiry, exploration, differences in style, discoveries about our practices, tasty 'pot-luck' dinner, laughter and community.

A tradition for an OSonOS or a WOSonOS since 2001 has been to include a 'Global Village Marketplace' (participants bring lovely items to sell) and a 'Silent Auction' (more beautiful things we bring and buy from one another - highest bidder wins the lovely item). Both of these traditions raise money and awareness for the Access Queen project (more about that in a future email). Looking across those tables you might have seen fresh Hawaiian honey, kilim-style pillows, a journal with a bookmark in it from Taiwan, a photo of a fern frond unfurling, and more.

Looking about the room you might have also seen one participant after another enjoying a massage kindly and skillfully provided by Alpha Lo, another person taking a sip of a great local wine, someone enjoying their tasty box lunch and someone else doing their stretches.

Topics included:

- When We Do Open Space - What Do I/You Do that is Different from What You/I Do?
- Open Space and Systems Theory
- Technology Tools People Are Using
- Haiti (Ayiti) - Next Steps - What Can We Do?
- Producing an Open Space Video
- How Do We Create A Balance Between 'Whoever Comes Are The Right People' and Acknowledging Those Who Are Not Present? (Seeing Cultural Blind Spots)
- The Power of Pre-Work
- What OS Tools are We Missing?
- Massage (that was ongoing massages throughout the OSonOS given by the fabulous Alpha Lo)
...and more.

We have posted the Book of Proceedings from the Open Space on Open Space 2010 in San F... for your reading enjoyment. A warm thanks to Kas Neteler, our Newsroom Coordinator and Book of Proceedings producer.

Some of us will see some of you in person at the WOSonOS in Berlin this May - and this particular OSonOS will happen again next year.

I am in SF Bay Area and new to OS. I took Lisa's training in Dec and have now helped on a couple of events and have a couple more in the works. If there is anyone in the area that is a seasoned OS practitioner -- I would love the opportunity to talk to you. Perhaps we could meet over a tea/coffee and enjoy a good conversation about your experiences. I have often been told, "I've never been asked that ... I've never thought of it that way" and other phrases that indicate to me that we will both benefit from the conversation. Please connect with me if you are interested.

I will also be listening and engaging in virtual conversations like the ones here on Ning; and I plan on being a regular attendee at the monthly Fab Facilitator's brunches.

I look forward to meeting you!

I'll be posting my 2010 schedule for San Francisco Open Space Learning Workshops soon (soonest will be perhaps in April, stay tuned). That's if he wants to attend the full workshop (for knowledge of what's behind OS - more than just the OS within the workshop), and he'd also want to read Harrison's "Open Space Technology: A User's Guide". With that learning, maybe there will be some local OSs before May...
